Japanese Treats and a Summery Outfit

Hi again! I just recently put up a post about going to a Japanese marketplace (click here if you want to see it), and I wanted to share what I picked up. The food in the food court there was pretty amazing, but I knew I wanted to take some treats home, too. I’m also going to show you the outfit I wore that day because I really loved it. No exaggeration, it’s been my favorite outfit I’ve worn so far this summer.

The first thing I knew I had to get was a nice pair of chopsticks. That was definitely one of my motivations for going to Mitsuwa. I don’t know if these are the best quality I’ve ever seen, but they’re much better than those little wooden chopsticks you get from sushi restaurants.

IMG_0595

I chose these because I love how the black and gold look together. I also really like the design of the birds and the mountain in the background. It was cool that the pattern was on both the container and the chopsticks themselves. I really appreciate that the chopsticks came with a case because I know for a fact that I’d lose them if there was nothing keeping them together. I haven’t used these yet, but I have a suspicion that the design isn’t going to stay on very well. I don’t really mind, though. I think that the design coming off a bit will just give it a nice distressed look.

Pocky was the other thing I knew I was looking for when I went to Mitsuwa. I feel like Pocky is a pretty well known snack or at least better known than a lot of other Japanese snacks. I’ve had chocolate Pocky before and it was pretty good, but I was itching to try some cooler flavors. I ended up going with green tea, strawberry, and cookies and cream.

IMG_0551

The strawberry flavor was really cute because its sticks were shaped like hearts. All the flavors were pretty good, but I think my favorite has to be the cookies and cream.

After I found the two things I knew I had to have, I was free to explore and just find things that caught my eye. I found these sakura pancakes. I’ve never had anything like it before, so I thought it would be a good idea to try it out.

IMG_0569

They come in cute little individual wrappers, and there are little flowers in the middle of them.

IMG_0571

The inside is filled with a thick pink filling and the outside is made of two small pancakes. Both the filling and the pancakes were sweet. I didn’t really expect the pancakes to be so sweet. I think the flavor of the pancakes and filling is really good, but I had a hard time with the texture of both. The pancakes were almost fluffy, but not quite. They were soft, but something about them just put me off. The filling was also too thick for my taste. I don’t really care about texture usually, but I find that Asian treats are the exception. I’m sure I’m just not used to it.

After getting my pancakes, the next stop was the candy isle. The bright colors on the packaging of the candy below drew me in. I couldn’t tell what was inside the packaging, but I had a suspicion that it was something similar to Pop Rocks. I was half right.

IMG_0564

The little package was filled with half Pop Rocks type candy and half of these little chalky candies. Both candies were pretty good, but I’m not sure if the combination of both together is as good as they would be separately.

IMG_0567

The next candy I got was a bag of Milk Caramels. I had never heard of a Milk Caramel before, but I thought it would be something cool to try.

IMG_0561

The caramels look like normal caramel candies except they’re lighter in color. They also taste pretty similar to normal caramels except they taste a little less flavorful. They’re still sweet and delicious, just less caramely. I love them. I’ve been eating a couple a day because I just can’t resist!

The last thing I picked up was this aloe sheet mask. I couldn’t read the directions on the back, but in the last step is saw the numbers 15-20. I’m willing to bet it meant to keep the mask on for 15 to 20 minutes, so I went for 20. I had a sunburn when I used it, and it soothed the the pain a bit. It also felt a lot more moisturized after I used it. It didn’t have a very strong smell, but what i could smell was pretty good.

IMG_0559

The last thing I grabbed before we left were these two drinks. I couldn’t decide which one to get, so I just took both! The first one I tried was the aloe drink. It was sweet, but not so sweet that it wasn’t thirst quenching. It also had these little bits of what I assume is jelly floating around on the inside. That might sound kind of weird, but they were actually pretty refreshing. The next drink I tried was the lychee drink. This was definitely my favorite of the two. Lychees are probably my favorite fruit, and this drink did not disappoint me at all. It tasted exactly like lychees. It wasn’t just kind of similar like some juices, it was exactly the same. I absolutely loved it! I will definitely buy it the next time I go back.

Now, on to the outfit! I feel like these pictures don’t do it justice, but at least you can get an idea. I love this outfit so much that I have to make an effort to not wear it too much. I like the colors of it because they remind me of nature. I usually don’t like wearing many bright colors, and I love wearing black.

The first part of this outfit I chose were the shorts. They’re a nice olive green color, and they’re really comfortable. I love them because I can tighten them to fit me just right. I also love how big the pockets are. In my experience, finding female clothing with pockets that aren’t tiny is nearly impossible. I can’t even fit my whole phone in most of my pockets! These shorts are different, though. I could probably fit a couple phones in just one pocket! The pockets also zip, so there’s no need to worry about your stuff falling out.

IMG_1448

After picking my shorts, I knew I wanted to wear something black on top. I usually don’t like too much color in an outfit, so, after I decided on green shorts, I wanted a neutral color on top. I really love the combination of olive green and black. This shirt is cool because of the beautiful lace detailing at the top and because it’s velvet. This shirt can definitely be worn for fancy and casual occasions. This time, I dressed it down with sporty looking shorts and a Hawaiian shirt.

IMG_1444

My favorite part of this outfit was definitely the Hawaiian shirt. It’s very over sized, so it’s very comfortable. It’s also really lightweight, so it’s not too hot for the summer. I love that this shirt is black and white because I think that makes it a lot more wearable than the traditional brightly colored Hawaiian shirt. It fits right in with my color scheme.

IMG_1465

I don’t like carrying big purses, so I used this small cork purse to carry a couple small things like money and ChapStick. It’s very structured and it has gold detailing. The gold square on the front turns to open or close the purse. It does get a little scratched up from all the turning, but I don’t think it’s very noticeable. You can use it as a clutch or you can use the gold chain to hang it over your shoulder. I think it’s a very unique bag, and I get complimented on it almost every time I wear it!

For my shoes, I wore these black gladiator-like sandals. I’m completely in love with them. I wear these sandals pretty much every single day because they’re really comfortable and super cute.  They remind me of Birkenstocks, but prettier and a little cheaper.

IMG_1432

I kept my makeup extremely natural. All I did was fill in my eyebrows, put on some BB cream and concealer, and brushed on some black mascara.

I hope this post wasn’t too long. I thought it would be cool to show you guys some snacks you might not be used to. I also hope you guys liked the outfit and maybe got some inspiration from it. Thanks for reading!

  1. Hey Leani!
I love pocky – I eat them all the time, and that aloe vera sheet mask looks really good! I’m a total sucker for japanese and korean beauty items…
Like your outfit, especially the bag was really cool! I once saw a pair of shoes made of cork. I’m wondering what would have happened to them if it had started to rain suddenly …

    1. Yummy! Do you have a favorite flavor? The mast was pretty great, I can’t wait to try another one. I’m glad you like the outfit! I thought cork was really cool for a purse, but I don’t know if cork shoes would work out as well haha.

Yes! That’s just what I thought! haha
Well, I like it, especially because it’s so small and convenient. Big purses don’t look good on me either since I’m so small… 😛
