Dressing for Fall

Hey guys! I’ve been meaning to make a post about this dress I made. I showed a few pictures of it in my Preparing for Fall post, but I thought it deserved it’s own post.

I’ve been looking for a casual dress for what feels like forever. And not just more casual than the average dress, but really casual. As casual as a sweatshirt. I love wearing dresses and tights in the fall time, but finding a dress that didn’t feel too dressed up was difficult. After searching for quite a while, I found my solution on Lazy Oaf. The have a lot of really cute casual dresses, the only problem is that they’re a little out of my price range.

This gray dress is the one I really wanted, but paying the full price for it isn’t practical for me right now. Instead, I wanted to try making it myself. I’m not much of a seamstress, but I know a few basic things. I decided my limited sewing knowledge was enough and I jumped right in. I bought some fabric and spent a few days trying and sometimes failing to sew a similar dress. I eventually came out with something I’m pretty proud of.

This is what I came up with. I think it turned out nicely. After making my dress, the next step was figuring out how to style it. The outfit below is what I decided on.

When I was making the dress, I envisioned myself wearing it with some back fishnet tights. That was the first thing I grabbed. Then I put some black over the knee socks on for a little extra warmth.

For my shoes, I decided on some black loafers to dress the outfit up a bit.

I think it looks pretty cool. What do you think? My favorite part of the shoes are the silver details.

To keep myself warm outside, I added this bomber style jacket. I found it in Ragstock with the rest of the 90’s jackets. The Cupid/angel print adds a nice pop of color to my otherwise colorless outfit.
