Hello beautiful people! I wanted to share a fashion fear of mine with you guys and how I’m trying to conquer it. I’m sure a lot of us have some things we want to wear or looks we want to try, but don’t wear them because we’re scared of what people will think.
Dia&Co have a Try-Day Friday where they challenge themselves to wear something that’s a little out of their comfort zone. I thought this was a great idea and wanted to try it for myself.
Dia&Co is a curated shopping experience for sizes 14+ that delivers right to your doorstep. They making finding stylish clothes that fit just right much easier for plus size women. I might not be plus size, but I can really get behind Dia&Co’s message that style isn’t a set of rules, but a way to celebrate who you are.
My fashion fear is wearing chokers. I know it seems like a pretty minor thing, but I’ve always had a hard time working up the courage to wear chokers in public.
I’ve heard guys make inappropriate comments about girls that wear chokers. I’ve also seen memes about how girls who wear chokers are promiscuous. It’s completely ridiculous. Wearing a piece of jewelry around your neck doesn’t have to mean anything more than you want it to. If you want to wear a choker just because you think it’s cute and looks good with your outfit, then that’s all it has to mean. Even so, I still get a little self conscious wearing one out.
I challenged myself to wear one out when I went to a coffee shop with my friend. I think it ended up looking really nice.
I like chokers because they make me feel delicate and feminine. I think they really highlight the beauty of the neck and collar bones. To me, the décolletage is one of the most beautiful parts of a woman’s body. Chokers emphasize this area nicely. To make this area stand out even more, I wore a slightly off the shoulder shirt.
I also wore a bra with white bra straps underneath because I thought black, white, and gray would look nice together.
I tucked my off the shoulder shirt into some dark wash jeans and then put on a brown belt to tie it all together. That’s actually also a small fashion fear of mine. I’m never sure if I should wear black, brown, and gray together, but I did and it looked pretty good to me!
To match with my black choker, I slid on some black boots. I wore brown socks with them to match my brown belt. Then I rolled up my jeans for a more flattering look.
I have to say it felt great to face a fear of mine. It makes me feel good to wear something I picked out without paying attention to what other people might think. I think I’ll be wearing chokers more often. I’m sure I’ll still feel a little nervous sometimes, but wearing one out showed me that it’s actually not so bad. I hope you can try wearing something you might be self conscious to wear. It probably won’t be as bad as you think.
